Body treatments

Elite Day Spa: Sea Salt Glow Scrub
24 W 39th St between Fifth and Sixth Aves (212-730-2100, elitedayspa.net). 30mins, $45. Technician Olivia began by massaging thick lotion onto my back, neck, shoulders and arms, telepathically finding all the spots where I hold tension. Next, she smoothed on a cool, fine-grained sea-salt mixture, which felt especially therapeutic when rubbed over my chapped soles and palms. After the process was repeated on my stomach, my chest, and the tops of my legs and arms, I was told to hop into the in-room shower to rinse off. I left with smooth, baby-soft skin. Best part: Though the scrub was billed as a 30-minute treatment, it clocked in closer to 45 and I didn’t get charged a dime more than the original price.—Cristina Velocci

The Face and Body Shop: Tahitian body polish
40-21 23rd Ave between Steinway and 41st Sts, Astoria, Queens (718-204-9390, thefaceandbodyshop.com). 45mins, $50. My aesthetician, Cleo, began by pressing her hands down on my feet, legs, back and shoulders, setting me at ease. Then she applied a silky, fine-grained scrub containing pomegranate seeds everywhere from my toes to the top of my neck, massaging it into my skin with quick, lateral movements. After a rinse in the in-room shower, I hopped back onto the table, now covered with fluffy towels, for a rubdown with a flowery perfumed cream. I emerged with a well-hydrated epidermis that smelled like a lovely pomegranate blossom.
Best part: After the service, Cleo diagnosed my thighs as my driest body parts—an area I’d never imagined needed TLC.—Cristina Velocci

Shade Bar Boutique Spa: Organic Body Butter
36-05 Ditmars Blvd between 36th and 37th Sts, Astoria, Queens (718-278-7892, shadebarspa.com). 30mins, $40. Working up from my winter-cracked heels to my shoulders, aesthetician Eliza applied the vanilla-ginger-scented shea butter (which smelled like Christmas cookies; the others, tropical smoothie and pineapple-lime among them, smelled like spring break) all over my body, modestly uncovering each section only as she worked on it.
Take note: Eliza was right when she said that after five minutes the lotion would completely absorb into my skin—unfortunately, I hopped off the table after only four and nearly slid off the hardwood floor and onto my well-moisturized tailbone.—Carolyn Juris
